Different information is valuable for different company, but they have one thing in common – it is necessary to store it safely.
Long before the origination of information technologies it was generally known that the information represent great advantage in many areas of human life. This is true even more in today’s world. Besides the constantly growing volume of information, the growing requirements on its availability are another problem. Whereas in the past, the main reason of information systems unavailability
was the hardware failure, today it is responsible for only 15% of outages. It is the software errors (45%) and human factor errors (40%), that cause wrinkles on the face of companies.
The classic ways of securing the high availability such as hardware redundancy (RAID) and cluster do not protect against the intentional or unintentional modification or deletion of data. In case of majority of organizations owning a large volume of valuable data, they have already established certain data backup mechanisms, but often they underestimate the importance of the data recovery management.
The back-up itself is pointless if it is not possible to recover the required data in time and demanded scope
The constantly growing volume of information, which is necessary to be stored for a longer period of time – either due to legislative reasons or their subsequent processing for example in case of a scientific research is required – brings the question where to store it? The answer may be the archiving, HSM (Hierarchical Storage Management) and specialized systems for storing the large-volume data (Big Data).
New technologies enable managing the more and more strictly defined requirements on systems of backup, recovery and hierarchical data management:
- synthetic backup
- continuous incremental backup
- disk-to-disk and disk-to-disk-to-tape backup
- virtual tape libraries (VTL)
- shared SAN file systems
- backup of virtualized environments of virtual servers in the form of an image
Get acquainted with the advantages
Since the very beginning of our activities on the market, we carefully monitor the latest trends in this area. Building up and supporting the operation of safe and effective solutions of data protection form key part of our portfolio. We cover the entire lifecycle of introducing such solutions, from the analysis of requirements through the application to the operational support. The independence of producers of individual technologies enables us to find an optimal solution for every customer’s actual and future requirements.
VE Proxy: proxy server for backup of virtualized environment. It connects to the API of the virtualization infrastructure and it directly accesses the images of virtual servers. By doing this, it avoids influencing the performance of the virtual servers themselves during the backup.
VTL: Virtual Tape Library – has got the interface towards the backup server as a real tape library. But in fact it stores data to hard-disks.
Tape library: actual generation of LTO6 tape mechanics is able to make a backup of as much as 2,5TB of uncompressed data on one tape.
Monitoring aand reporting: the monitoring and reporting system forms an inseparable part of the backup solution. It can be independent or the monitoring of backup is integrated into the existing monitoring system. The system automatically notifies administrators of any failure of backup tasks or other errors. Reports help planning the capacity and expansion of backup system.
