Backup server: maintains the central metadata database and the scheduled tasks, it manages launching of backups, backup devices and backup media maintenance.

VE Proxy: proxy server for backup of virtualized environment. It connects to the API of the virtualization infrastructure and it directly accesses the images of virtual servers. By doing this, it avoids influencing the performance of the virtual servers themselves during the backup.

VTL: Virtual Tape Library – has got the interface towards the backup server as a real tape library. But in fact it stores data to hard-disks.

Tape library: actual generation of LTO6 tape mechanics is able to make a backup of as much as 2,5TB of uncompressed data on one tape.

Monitoring aand reporting: the monitoring and reporting system forms an inseparable part of the backup solution. It can be independent or the monitoring of backup is integrated into the existing monitoring system. The system automatically notifies administrators of any failure of backup tasks or other errors. Reports help planning the capacity and expansion of backup system.
